Welcome to Sri Lanka! On arrival into Colombo you’ll be greeted by your personal chauffeur and guide throughout your adventures who will escort you to your car. Your first stop will be the tea country. Although the journey is approximately five hours we assure you this will be one of the most spectacular journeys you’ll ever embark on. Watch as the scenery changes from the hustle of city life and transforms into winding mountainous roads as you ascend up the hills passing lush mist filled tea plantations and waterfalls.
After the journey you’ve had we’ll leave you to recoup and reenergise at your hotel as tomorrow promises to be an action packed day.
Today will be an early start as you head to the beautiful highland plateau of Horton Plains. This UNESCO World heritage site promises to take your breath away as you hike through the wet grasslands, forests and waterfalls. The pinnacle of the walk is reaching the peak of the 2,100 metre summit known as Worlds End with stunning views of Southern Sri Lanka.
Once you’ve refreshed you can head to a tea factory for a well-earned cup of tea and see how our famous brew is processed.
From Nuwara Eliya you’ll be driven to Sri Lanka’s largest National park, Yala. You’ll transfer into a Jeep along with a specialist guide and explore this vast expanse of land trying to spot the elusive Leopard. Yala covers over 300,000 acres with varying landscapes from grasslands, forests and sand dunes. There’s plenty to see besides these gracious creatures and regularly find large herds of elephants bathing in one of the waterholes around the park. Head to the forests and see the monkeys swinging from the tree tops or even explore the ancient ruins still left untouched.
The best time to visit Yala is in the morning and late afternoon as the animals come out into the open to feed and drink at the watering holes around the Park. Continue your adventures on a private safari and get your fill of all the animals that reside there from the Asian Elephant, Monkeys, Deer, exotic birds, leopards and sloth bears.
Your adventures continue in the Uda Walawe National park where you’ll explore for the next two days. Your jeep safari will be accompanied by an expert guide who can lead trails to discover large herds of elephants, water buffalo’s, wild boar and if your very lucky the endangered Leopard. Again, the best time to visit the park is early morning and early evening.
Another day spent at the Uda Walawe National park with two game drives set for the day. You may want to spend more time in the surrounding forests and spotting the many species of exotic birds and monkeys that inhabit the park.
There is also the chance to see crocodiles, water buffalo’s and monitor lizards around the water holes.
You’ll be heading off to the tranquillity of the Sinharaja rainforest where the almost daily rain brings a cool refreshing end to your time in Sri Lanka. The regular drizzle of rain makes this UNESCO World Heritage site the lifeline of the islands eco-system. Located in South-West Sri Lanka, the largely untouched reserve is only accessible by foot so get your hiking boots on and explore the lush green forests with many species of birds and wild animals that inhabit the lands.
You can either spend the morning heading back to the Sinharaja rainforest and exploring some more or decide to take the long drive back to the familiarity of the Capital, Colombo. The drive back passes by banana plantations and local villages before you reach the populated capital. You can take a tour around the city and maybe visit one of the local markets to pick up some gifts for those back home.
Your time on this majestic island has come to an end and the short drive back to Colombo International airport will no doubt leave you saddened knowing you have to leave it all behind. We know this isn’t goodbye but more a farewell till you return again.
